Nandini Mandal is an exponent of Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance form. She started learning Bharatanatyam in 1977 at the age of 7.
She completed her Arangetram, the official graduation in Bharatanatyam, at the age of 14, under the guidance of her teacher, Guru Snigdha Pal.

She earned the "Sangeet Prabhakar" degree with distinction in Bharatanatyam from Allahabad University, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, after completing her Senior Diploma in 1984 . She specialized in this dance form under the tutelage of the famous maestro Guru Thankamani Kutti, Guru Kalamandalam Venkitt, the late Guru Uma Venkitt, and Guru Preetha Venkitt of the Calcutta Kalamandalam. As a member of   the Dancer's Guild, she underwent training in Nava Nritya, a contemporary dance form, under late Manjushree Chaki Sircar and her daughter late Ranjabati Sircar. She also completed a workshop in Manipuri, a neoclassical dance style from the eastern state of Manipur, India, under her Guru Snighdha Pal. She underwent a special training at Mamata Shankar's school of Ballet, Calcutta, India in December 2001.

She continues to expand her horizon in the world of dance through research and learning and encourages her students to do the same. Her performances not only illustrate the combination of rich dances from India, but also reflect on current issues and challenges faced by the global society. Over the last ten years, she has choreographed and performed at various cultural festivals in India and at different locations in the US. She is constantly expanding her creativity by collaborating with local artistes and performing in schools, colleges and at other public forums.  

She is now associated with Uma Memorial Kalalayam, a dance school in Kolkata, India, run by her Gurus Kalamandalam Venkitt   and Preetha Venkitt.  

Nandini has a penchant for reading poetry, monologues, and acting in plays. A mother of two daughters - Roosha and Raka, she lives in Pittsburgh, PA.
